Mental state of mind

24.10.2018

This is to remind myself that it is ok to take a break and rest.

That it is ok to struggle when you're new at something.

That it is ok to make mistakes, even silly ones.

That it is ok to take baby steps.

Over the past few months, I have become more aware of the importance of taking mental health very seriously. To keep myself in check before a break down. Every bodies work differently, every mind functions in their own way.

It's ok if they don't understand. So long as I have myself to understand myself.

A cup of tea.

Taking my time to do my nightly skincare.

Face mask before bed.

Burning a candle.

Getting in bed early.

Self-care, self-love.

Coffee breaks

Spending Sunday night at Starbucks, seated beside A as he finishes his assignments.
I'm so proud of this man, he has no idea. So hardworking and so determined, something I rarely see in men (for most men I know).

Anyway, I find a certain kind of comfort when sitting at coffeehouses.

I love the smell of coffee brewing. Although I'm not a coffee drinker (but obsessed with iced caramel macchiato at the moment! but decaf) And most times when I'm at a coffeehouse, my mind is forced to a mental to-do list and kinda puts some things in life into perspective.

My Friday in the last week started on Thursday, which means I had a long 4-day weekend. Probably the last long break in awhile before December comes. So this coffee break is essential to prep me for the next few weeks of work.

Is that weird?

TGIF!

I don't wanna talk about work too much here but really, my life is centred around it at the moment. I'm quite lucky that I have the guidance I needed but it still feels like I'm being thrown into the middle of the ocean and learning how to swim/ keep afloat is all there is to do for me to survive and make it out alive. That's the best way to learn, anyway.

I'm so dramatic.

My planner looks daunting with all the daily to-do lists but there's a certain kind of satisfaction when I tick them off one by one at the end of each day. It means I'm making progress & I can do everything I once thought was beyond my capabilities. I need to stop underestimating myself and lower down my self-expectations - I have this need of wanting to do everything right & perfect when I should give myself some allowance to make mistakes. I'll eventually get there but for now, I'm only human.

I finally! scheduled some pampering & me time tomorrow, really looking forward to that.

That's all. Sending you all the +ve vibes ♥

Conversation with A

A: *says some sweet lovey dovey things*

Me: *comfortably tucked into bed, smiling like an idiot but drifting off to sleep*

After a few seconds...

A: You asleep? No goodnight?

Me: hmmmm..... but I'm comfortable in bed already.. *knocks out into wonderland*

( ⚆ _ ⚆ )

I was gonna reply his sweet nothings with "I'm so comfortable with you". But somehow, my brain decides that my mouth could spill a nonsensical sentence instead of a simple goodnight.

It was a really long week, being in bed was a dream and the brain couldn't really function.

The promotion

It has been a super long, emotionally draining week.
But just when I thought I can't, I actually can.

I have humbly reached a point in my career I never thought I'd accomplish at 23 years old.
Funnily, it has been a constant topic of conversation between A and I ever since I started this job, I just didn't have enough faith that it will eventually follow through. My superior had more faith in me (than I did in myself), enough to push me up to take over her and that was surprising because I didn't know I had it in me.

For almost 2 months, I was sleepless - my body refused to shut down as I constantly worry if I'm cut out for it. Frequently texted A about self-doubts and incapabilities. And now here I am.

I just want to pen this down so I can come back to this a few months down the road, when I have everything under control, to laugh at my useless worrying and anxiety. There's still much to learn and lots of worries will come along with it, but for now, let's just leave this here while I enjoy my glorious piece of cheesy pizza.

Warm regards,
Ms Sabrina

Counting my blessings

Most times I complain a lot about work, but adulting means I get to buy things I had previously longed and dreamt about for days, especially when it comes to makeup & skincare.

You don't know what you have till it's gone.

For me, I didn't know what I have (and wasn't thankful for) until Sephora had a 20% off sale & I had nothing in my cart except my staple items to stock up. Because I already have everything I wanted, and probably even more.

A revelation. I am very thankful.

Where attention goes, energy flows.

"If we tend to be the type of person that focuses on the downfall, the negative possibilities, then we're giving energy towards those negative possibilities to become a reality. Now if we're able to consider the flipside, what would happen?"

Food for thought from my yoga practice.

Hello

Sabrina, going 23, writing from tropical island Singapore, but mentally & always dreaming of waking up to a good cup of tea elsewhere.

It's been years:

1) this space

2) dabbling with the idea of upgrading my macbook which has became too big/ heavy to lug around everywhere, thus the depleting motivation to be productive for anything other than the completely necessary adulting work hence the abandonment of this blog, but anyway hello from my rose gold device ;-)

3) feeling inspired
(to write here but never got round to actually do it)

4) trying to find a new template - I h a t e layouts that breaks up my long posts with a "read more" option

but hello :-)
